Nico von Rupp wins Allianz Algarve Pro
This last weekend the best Portuguese surfers met at Praia do Amado to compete within the Allianz Algarve Pro. Besides the fight for the national title, the overall winner of the Liga Moche will gain a Wildcard for the Portguese ASP stop in Peniche later this year and get the chance to compete with the 34 best Surfers worldwide.
"The atmosphere here in the Algarve is electric with anticipation," Luca and Joackim Guichard say, two of the best local surfers and participants in the competition. "We are very pleased to have this event here at the Algarve again, proofing its conditions for good surfing.“
On Sunday, with the swell dropping down compared to Saturday, the best national surfers resumed this Sunday's Allianz Algarve Pro. With all of the women's heats and the men’s rounds starting at the of round 16, it was a long day full of action.
At the end Nico von Rupp took the overall win plus the award for the best wave.
"Today was quite demanding from a physical point of view. We ran four heats in a row, but I ended up getting this trophy. On the very beach where I started with my first surfing championship. So I am quite satisfied and motivated, "said the winner.
Carina Duarte took the win on the girls competition. With a total of 15.50 points out of possible 20, Carina has clearly outperformed the other three finalists, leaving the leader of the female national ranking, Teresa Bonvalot, second.
"More than winning, I like to feel that I was surfing well, evolving from wave to wave. I love this kind of waves, tightly, so I felt very well in water. Of course, the win gave me enough motivation to continue to evolve in the League MOCHE, "concluded Carina.
